Snow words
Snow, a crucial part of the Christmas experience, covers most of Finland for at least four months of the year. This probably explains why the Finnish language has so many different verbs for different kinds of snowfalls: “pyryttaa” (the snow swirls down in large amounts), “tuiskuaa” (the snow whirls about), “tupruttaa” (the snow blows about in gusts).
